Their petitions and appeals directed to the executive officers and the judiciary had failed to bring them relief. See History of the Church, Vol. 3, p. 289. O God, where art thou? And where is the pavilion that covereth thy hiding place? How long shall thy hand be stayed, and thine eye, yea thy pure eye, behold from the eternal heavens the wrongs of thy people and of thy servants, and thine ear be penetrated with their cries. Yea, O Lord, how long shall they suffer these wrongs and unlawful oppressions, before thine heart shall be softened toward them, and thy bowels be moved with compassion toward them? O Lord God Almighty, maker of heaven, earth and seas, and of all things that in them are, and who controllest and subjectest the devil, and the dark and benighted dominion of Sheol, stretch forth thy hand; let thine eye pierce; let thy pavilion be taken up; let thy hiding place no longer be covered; let thine ear be inclined; let thine heart be softened, and thy bowels moved with compassion toward us. Let thine anger be kindled against our enemies; and, in the fury of thine heart, with thy sword avenge us of our wrongs. Remember thy suffering saints, O our God; and thy servants will rejoice in thy name forever.
Table of ContentsMy son, peace be unto thy soul; thine adversity and thine afflictions shall be but a small moment; And then, if thou endure it well, God shall exalt thee on high; thou shalt triumph over all thy foes. Thy friends do stand by thee, and they shall hail thee again, with warm hearts and friendly hands. Thou art not yet as Job; thy friends do not contend against thee; neither charge thee with transgressions, as they did Job. And they who do charge thee with transgressions, their hope shall be blasted, and their prospects shall melt away as the hoar frost melteth before the burning rays of the rising sun; And also that God hath set his hand and seal to change the times and seasons, and to blind their blind their minds, that they may not understand his marvelous workings; that he may prove them also and take them in their own craftiness; And because their hearts are corrupted, and the things which they are willing to bring upon others, and love to have others suffer, may come upon themselves to the very uttermost; That they may be disappointed also, and their hopes may be cut off. And not many years hence, that they and their posterity shall be swept from under heaven, saith God, that not one of them is left to stand by the wall.
Table of ContentsCursed are all those that shall lift up the heel against mine anointed, saith the Lord, and cry they have sinned when they have not sinned before me, saith the Lord, but have done that which was meet in mine eyes, and which I commanded them. But those who cry transgression do it because they are the servants of sin, and are the children of disobedience themselves. And those who swear falsely against my servants, that they might bring them into bondage and death--Wo unto them; because-they have offended my little ones they shall be severed from the ordinances of mine house. Their basket shall not be full, their houses and their barns shall perish, and they themselves shall be despised by those that flattered them. They shall not have right to the priesthood, nor their posterity after them from generation to generation. It had been better for them that a millstone had been hanged about their necks, and they drowned in the depth of the sea. Wo unto all those that discomfort my people, and drive, and murder, and testify against them, saith the Lord of Hosts; a generation of vipers shall not escape the damnation of hell. (D. & C. 121:1-23)
Behold, the destroyer I have sent forth to destroy and lay waste mine enemies; and not many years hence they shall not be left to pollute mine heritage, and to blaspheme my name upon the lands which I have consecrated for the gathering together of my Saints. (D. & C. 105:15)
Table of ContentsThis know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God. (2 Timothy 3)
Table of ContentsYou have scarcely yet read the preface of your national troubles. Many nations will be drawn into the American maelstrom that now whirls through the land; and after many days, when the demon of war shall have exhausted his strength and madness upon American soil, by the destruction of all that can court or provoke opposition, excite cupidity, inspire revenge, or feed ambition, he will remove his headquarters to the banks of the Rhine.

Table of ContentsThe Lord will have a place whence His word will go forth, in these last days in purity, for if Zion will not purify herself, so as to be approved in all things in His sight, He will seek another people, for His work will go on until Israel is gathered and they who will not hear His voice must expect to feel His wrath. Let me say unto you "seek to purify yourself and also all the inhabitants of Zion lest the Lord's anger be kindled in fierceness." Repent! repent, is the voice of God to Zion. It is evident to all Latter-day Saints who have faith in the Lord's promises that we will prosper and live in peace in the valleys of the mountains and be perfectly independent. We will have houses and lands, flocks and herds, food and raiment, and every good thing our hearts can desire, IF WE DO RIGHT. If Latter-day Saints fail to keep the Lord's commandments and take the right course, we are sure to see sorrow and suffering, as this people have never suffered. In 1854,
Heber C. Kimball said, "Will the time ever be that we can make our own clothing? I would like to see the people take a course to make their clothing, make their own machinery, their own knives and forks and everything else we need, for the day will come when we will be under the necessity of doing it, for trouble and perplexity, war and famine, bloodshed and fire and thunder and lightning will roll upon the nations of the earth insomuch we cannot get to them nor they to us." Heber C. Kimball said it was revealed to him that the last great destruction of the wicked would be on the lakes near the Hill Cumorah.

Table of ContentsTherefore, as the time draws near when the sun is to be darkened, the moon turned to blood, and the stars fall from heaven, the Lord will bring to the knowledge of his people his commandments and statutes, that they may be prepared to stand when the earth shall reel to and fro as a drunken man, earthquakes cause the nations to tremble, and the destroying angel goes forth to waste the inhabitants at noonday; for so great are to be the calamities which are to come upon the inhabitants of the earth before the coming of the Son of Man the second time, that whoso is not prepared cannot abide; but such as are found faithful, and remain, shall be gathered with his people and caught up to meet the Lord in the cloud, and so shall they inherit eternal life. Letter No. 6 from Oliver Cowdery to W. W. Phelps. Messenger and Advocate, Kirtland, Ohio, Vol. 1, No. 7, pp. 111-2.
Table of ContentsThe following remarkable prediction was made by Pres. Wilford Woodruff at Brigham City, Utah, June 24, 1894, on the occasion of a testimony meeting called by President Lorenzo Snow convening on the evening of the Sabbath, on the above date. In the evening the best and indeed the crowning feature of the whole excursion was enjoyed. President Snow announced that the evening would be occupied by the Temple workers as a Testimony meeting, and it was so done. Most of the brethren workers bore strong and grateful testimonies, not only of their delight and joy in the work of the Temple, but testified also of their happiness and of their gratitude to the Saints in Box Elder Stake, who had made it possible for them to enjoy such a rare treat. Three of the sisters, Sister Zina D. Young, who is the President of the sisters in the Temple, with Sister Bathsheba W. Smith and Minnie J. Snow, her two counselors, spoke briefly of their joy in the work.
Aunt Bathsheba mentioned the fact that she had received her blessings in Nauvoo under the hands of the Prophet Joseph Smith, she being now the only living woman who has so received these blessings. President Woodruff spoke afterwards on the same subject, and bore testimony to the receiving of the same blessings in the same manner, he being the only living man at present who has thus received his endowments. This then, should be recorded in the mind, and in the private journal of every one, that President Woodruff and Sister Bathsheba W. Smith, were endowed and received their blessings of sealing and anointings under the hands of the Prophet Joseph Smith. There were many more who likewise had this great privilege, but they are all dead, leaving only these two living witnesses.
